The people of Flint have been poisoned by their government. For two years, the water coming out of their taps and showerheads has been laced with lead that leached off of old pipes when dirty water ran through it from the polluted Flint River. The state officials in charge of the city, which was under “emergency management” and being starved to the verge of bankruptcy, knew about it and didn’t tell the residents. Instead, they quietly trucked their own clean water into state buildings. Straight criminal!
Over the past months, occupiers from Detroit, NYC and beyond have been visiting Flint to provide mutual aid and amplify local demands. Next month, though, we are planning an even bigger response – but we need your help to make it happen.
The funds raised by our non-profit partners at Detroit Workers & Builders will go towards amplifying local demands by hiring local organizers from Detroit and Flint and mobilizing busloads of occupiers from across the country for the March 5-6 weekend Democratic Presidential Debate in Flint.
We won't leave Flint behind.
We won't let Michigan's governor get away with this and his many disastrous urban policies that hurt poor and black people.
Flint and their mayor are in outright revolt against poverty and extremist Tea Party Republican policies. We will rise up with Flint!
In solidarity,
The OccupyWallStNYC Team

'We are the 99%, in all of our tremendous diversity. We are the students and young people, the homeowners, the workers, the families, the immigrants, the seniors and retirees, and every other American sick of seeing their democracy serve only the interests of the 1%. United by a common vision, a common strategy, and a set of simple, clear guidelines, we work together in a decentralized movement where every community is empowered to take independent, creative action and every member is encouraged to develop as a leader.'
