This is a special fourth anniversary email message. On September 17, 2011, a rag-tag group of dreamers marched to the heart of global capitalism with a simple message: We are the 99%. Four years later...
Occupy has gone global.
There's no denying it. What began as a minor protest encampment in Zuccotti Park on Wall Street has found its place in the global revolution for real democracy. Like the thousand seeds of a dandelion, the Occupy diaspora has spread across the world. In a park in Istanbul, Turkey a young woman stands in defiance of her prime minister's riot police, 'DIREN OCCUPY!' written on her t-shirt. In Hong Kong, pro-democracy protesters occupy the central business district for months. In the hills of Jamaica, young and old people occupy Pinnacle, the spiritual birthplace of Rastafari. This movement is growing.
In a world in global revolution, we must stay connected to those struggling for democracy and dignity across the globe. That's why today we launch THE GLOBAL PLATFORM.
The Global Platform is a collaboration between Occupy activists, the NYC office of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and data visualization agency Two-N. It's an interactive exploration tool of global protest and political participation. It's meant to be a living repository of demands, strategies and tactics of a world in revolution for social change.
